Emergency service staff have begun a search and rescue operation for residents stuck in the area, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported after the local weather service visually confirmed a tornado in the northeast Dallas area late last night. The Mayor of Dallas Eric Johnson said the city was “preparing to open Bachman Recreation Center” for people seeking shelter in the aftermath of the Texas storm, later adding that the Red Cross would be on site....

Cook missed the final two games of the regular season with a shoulder injury but is in line to return against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Vikings star, who produced 1,654 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns before his injury, says he has no concerns over his readiness to come back into the fold. “I definitely feel refreshed. I don’t want to put a percentage on it, but whatever per cent I was, I’d be out there on Sunday,” Cook told a news conference on Wednesday....

Chris Archer has some trouble keeping the ball in the yard lately, but you still have to like his chances against a Brewers team that leads the majors in strikeout percentage against righties. Similarly, Jameson Taillon has really struggled over his past couple starts, but a matchup against the Padres, who are second in K-rate and fifth worst in wRC+ against righties, is too good to pass up. The biggest risk is obviously Aaron Nola in Colorado, but he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his past eight outings, striking out just under eight batters per game in that span....

Of course, we have to point out that Scherzer is one of 16 pitchers starting in the afternoon, leaving only 10 for the evening slate. Our top-six pitchers and seven of our top 10 are going during the day. With no true “aces” on the main slate, Chase Anderson (at STL), Adam Wainwright (vs. MIL), and Dan Straily (at TB) jump out as the best plays. While Straily has an edge in strikeouts, Anderson has been a better pitcher this year....

The five afternoon games feature Bumgarner, Kevin Gausman and Trevor Bauer. In the night slate, Collin McHugh should finally get his first win of the year against a struggling White Sox offense. After nearly throwing a no-hitter against the Marlins in his last outing, Gio Gonzalez faces them again. We obviously can’t expect another one-hitter, but Gonzalez is in position for another terrific start. Also, Masahiro Tanaka has been dealing his past two starts, and he faces a Blue Jays team he dominated the last time he faced them....

Our lineup for Sunday-Monday GPPs might be a little chalky (though, with only three games, how much differentiation can you get without really taking some chances?), but we think our mix of Lions’ receivers and (hopefully) “secondary” plays from the Ravens and Broncos will give us an edge. After roughly a year of contract talks with Prescott but no agreement, the Cowboys in March placed an exclusive franchise tag on the QB to keep him away from free agency. Last season was the fourth and final year of the rookie contract Prescott signed after Dallas selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Prescott signed the franchise tender last month, so one of two things will happen this week....

This is a very top-heavy day for pitching. There are several aces on the hill, including Max Scherzer and Felix Hernandez in great matchups, but the rankings fall off a cliff around Aaron Sanchez. Sure, some of these mid-tier guys have been pitching well lately, but they feel more like land mines than potential value picks. (Update: Felix Hernandez landed on the DL with a calf strain; James Paxton will take his place Wednesday night in San Diego)....

How loaded are today’s SP rankings? We have one of last year’s Cy Young winners at No. 12 and a guy who had a 16-K game this year at No. 14. If you really want, you can still go cheap and play matchups with someone like Juan Nicasio against the Braves or go for a boom-or-bust option like Carlos Rodon against the strikeout-prone Astros. But you don’t really need to do that today with so many upper-tier hurlers, so it’s going to come down to finding a great one, not merely a good one....

Ivan Nova (vs. CIN) and Jason Hammel (vs. OAK) don’t have huge strikeout upside, but both are solid veterans with decent matchups in good parks opposite inexperienced starters. If you’re looking for a boom-or-bust type who could rack up points with Ks, Blake Snell (at NYY), Vince Velasquez (vs. NYM), and maybe Zack Wheeler (at PHI) are your guys, but it would shock no one if they couldn’t get past the fifth inning....

Another key injury update to watch tonight: Kobe Bryant (shoulder) is “50-50” to play against the Grizzlies, according to coach Byron Scott.
