Madame Web is a character who has appeared in the Marvel Comics. She is usually a supporting character who assists Spider-Man and uses her psychic abilities to assist the web crawler in his fight against the many super villains that plague New York City. Web is often depicted as a mutant, so this implies that she has connection to the world of X-Men. For those who don’t know, Madame Web is paralyzed, blind, psychic, and kept alive by a life support machine that is designed in the shape of a web.

Following reports of her being in talks to play Madame Web, Johnson took to Instagram to post an image of a spider web. Many are speculating that this means she will be in fact playing the character. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are going to be writing the project, with previous works that include Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt, Power Rangers, and Morbius. Their resume definitely has the darker gothic thematic films that would fit Madame Web very well.
Sony’s Madame Web movie has a chance of becoming a part of the Disney’s MCU world, but in the off chance it doesn’t then there’s a possibility that she may meet Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. Right now it’s unclear how much Marvel Studios will be handling these Sony solo movies, if at all. Fans are eager to see Madame Web and Peter Parker finally meet in the live-action format. Madame Web made her appearance in the comic books, but she was also a character in the 1994 Spider-Man animated series. That same series also featured crossovers with other characters such as Morbius, Blade, Daredevil, Venom, and even the Avengers.
Fans of the animated series may be able to see the live-action Spider-Man world have the same impact and allure that the television show did. The show felt just like the comic books with how often Spider-Man crossed over with the many other characters of the Marvel world. It’s just harder when it comes to the movies, as actors have different schedules, and it’s expensive to make real life look like the comic books. However, Marvel Studios has been making it look very easy lately.
All the crossovers and different characters appearing in other series is becoming way more common now. With appearances by Kingpin in Hawkeye, Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and several cameos rumored for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it appears Marvel Studios plans to have characters crossover into each other’s films for more than just Avengers features.
Madame Web is currently in development at Sony.
